All About Me and Room 103!

Teacher: Mrs. Curry

• This is my 2nd year at PS52. Prior to working here, I worked in Brooklyn for 12 years in a 12:1+1 classroom.
• This classroom consists of 12 students, 1 teacher and 5 paraprofessionals. This class has Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd graders.
• This school year requires your help to be successful so please make sure to check your child’s folder every night, assist them with homework as needed and check Class Dojo for any messages from me as well as school updates.

I strongly believe that each child has the potential to grow cognitively, academically and socially. My goal is for each child to reach their maximum academic potential and be as independent as possible.

Morning Routines

We understand that many of our students receive services to address motor delays but we want to work together to make them as independent as possible. Please encourage your child to unpack their belongings at home and place their belongings in their proper place.

PS 52 has a new water bottle policy. NO METAL water bottles will be allowed. Juice is okay for lunch.

Daily Schedule

The school day is from 8:00am - 2:20pm.

If students wish to eat breakfast, it’s free :) They must be in the building by 7:40, where they will eat in the cafeteria. No meals are eaten in the classroom.

• Math - Eureka
• SEL (Social Emotional Learning) - Ruler
• Science (Monday and Wednesday)
• Social Studies (Thursday)
• Gym (Tuesday and Friday)
• Music (Monday)

There is no juice allowed in the classroom. Please note, we do not have a refrigerator to store lunches so please pack a thermos or ice pack.

Labeling

• Students often confuse their items for someone else’s or leave them behind, especially during recess and gym.
• All supplies must be labeled with your child’s name and class.
• We encourage labeling of other belongings – sweaters/coats, water bottles, hats, scarves etc.
• If you send in money, please make sure it is in a sealed envelope and it is labeled with your child’s name, class and what it is for. Example: Ice cream money.

Attendance/Dismissal

• If your child is absent, please send in a note in your child’s folder or you may send me a message on Class Dojo.
• Every day that your child is in school counts - Attendance is important so please send your child in regularly unless they are ill.
• If there is a change to dismissal plans such as getting picked up versus going on the bus, you must send me a note in writing. If it is an emergency, please notify the school. I may not view your Dojo message during the school day.
• Dismissal is at 2:15. Under no circumstances will your child be released to anyone that is not listed on the blue card. Persons listed should carry their ID on them for proof.

Behavior Chart

• Our school uses a traffic light to help students understand their behavior. Green means ready to learn, yellow means to slow down and think about your choices. Red means you are having difficulty following the rules. Please make sure to discuss your child’s behavior by looking at the color of their folder and initial each night - remember to praise them when they are on green!

I am a big believer in positive reinforcement and behavior specific praise - what does that mean?

That means we don’t just tell the students good job, but what they are doing a good job at. (Example - Nice job raising your hand, amazing job sitting and paying attention, I like how you remained quiet on line, Great job on your homework)

Students earn stickers for good behavior throughout the day. Each student has a sticker chart. Once they fill it up, they can go to the prize box!

Grading System

• ME = Exceeding grade level standards
• MA = Above grade level standards
• MT = Meeting grade level standards
• MP = Approaching grade level standards
• MB = Below grade level standards

Students will get 3 report cards per year: November, March and June.

In addition, you will also receive progress reports on their IEP goals at the same time. Progress reports will be printed. Report cards will be available on your MySchools account.

Birthdays

Birthdays are a special day and your children are welcome to celebrate in the classroom and parents are welcome to join! Siblings may NOT join.

If you would like to send something in for your child’s birthday, please let me know and we can schedule a day/time. No peanut or seed/nut product or containing product of any kind is permitted. Please send in one flavor of the birthday treat (ex - all chocolate cupcakes) in order to be fair to all children. Parties are approximately 20 minutes long.

Goodie bags are NOT permitted and will be returned home if sent in.
