From the Principal

Id like to wish all of our P.S.52 families much happiness and good health as we start 2014! Its wonderful to see our children each morning, well rested and eager to do well in school. I need to thank our parents for supporting our children as they complete their daily assignments and Vacation Learning Packets. These tools help students as they reinforce the skills that we are working so hard to teach.
The school year is passing quickly. Of course we are all working hard to prepare our children to meet the criteria of the Common Core Learning Standards and do well on the upcoming standardized tests. Were fortunate to be able to offer all of our Grade 3-5 students the opportunity to attend our Afterschool Academic Program every Thursday and Friday afternoon. Our intention is to provide intensive instruction and test preparation to our children so that their performance on the upcoming NYS ELA and Math Tests will show increased student achievement.
This year, weve been very successful in seeing more of our parents as well. We continue our weekly, grade appropriate Common Core parent meetings. At these meetings we offer resources and support to parents as theyre familiarized with the instructional practices implemented in our curriculum. Weve begun to hold Adult English as a Second Language classes every Thursday and Friday at 9:00AM.
We recently established our P.S.52 Student Council. Each class in Grades 3-5 selected a class council member (our Student Ambassadors) and on January 23rd we held a special assembly to elect our Student Council Secretary, Vice President and President. I was so very proud of all of our children as they presented their speeches to their peers and of those in the audience who listened attentively and voted that day. Congratulations to all of our Student Ambassadors and to our newly elected officers! Our children continue to amaze me as they remain diligent in their schoolwork and citizenship. It is wonderful to be part of a school community that works so well together and I look forward to continuing our work in 2014!
